Hippo Terms and Conditions
Effective date: 10/28/2026
Version: 1.0
These Terms and Conditions (“Terms”) govern your use of itshippo.com and the Hippo applications, features, and services (the “Service”). The Service is operated by Eous, Inc., doing business as Hippo (“Hippo,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). By creating an account or otherwise accepting these Terms, you agree to them. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal information.
1. Eligibility and accounts
You must be at least 18 and legally able to enter into a contract to use the Service. If you use Hippo on behalf of another person or an organization, you must have authority to do so. Provide accurate account information, keep your login credentials secure, and notify us at hello@itshippo.com if you suspect unauthorized access. You are responsible for activity you authorize through your account.
2. What Hippo does
Hippo helps you organize and understand documents, identify potential next steps, and prepare explanations, drafts, checklists, and reminders. Features may use artificial intelligence. Available features may change over time, and some features may be experimental.
Hippo is not a law firm, healthcare provider, financial adviser, insurance agent, or government agency. The Service provides informational and organizational assistance, not professional legal, medical, tax, investment, or other regulated advice. Using Hippo does not create a professional adviser-client relationship.
AI-generated content may be inaccurate, incomplete, or outdated. Review important facts, calculations, citations, dates, and drafts before relying on them. Seek qualified professional advice when appropriate. Hippo does not guarantee refunds, savings, eligibility, coverage, successful appeals, or any other outcome. You remain responsible for your decisions and deadlines.
3. Your content and permissions
You retain ownership of documents, messages, and other material you submit (“Your Content”). You grant Hippo a limited, nonexclusive license to host, copy, process, transmit, and display Your Content only as needed to provide the Service you request, maintain its security, and meet legal obligations, consistent with our Privacy Policy. This license does not transfer ownership of Your Content or authorize its sale to third-party advertisers.
Only submit content you have the right to use and share. Obtain any required authority or consent before submitting someone else’s records, including a child’s records. Share only information relevant to your task, and remove unnecessary sensitive identifiers when possible.
4. Connected services and external actions
If you connect an external account, you authorize Hippo to access information within the permissions you grant and for the purposes explained when you connect it. You may revoke access through Hippo or the external provider, as available. Revoking access does not automatically delete information already imported; see our Privacy Policy for deletion requests.
Before Hippo sends a message, submits a request, or takes another action with an outside organization on your behalf, we will obtain your authorization for the specific action or clearly defined scope. Connecting an account or accepting these Terms alone does not authorize unrelated external actions. You are responsible for reviewing actions and content you approve. External providers control their own services, decisions, fees, and response times.
5. Acceptable use
Do not use the Service to violate law or others’ rights; impersonate someone; upload malicious code; gain unauthorized access; disrupt the Service; bypass security or usage limits; or collect or disclose another person’s information without authority. Do not present Hippo-generated content as a verified professional opinion when it is not. We may investigate misuse and restrict access when reasonably necessary to protect users, the Service, or legal compliance.
6. Hippo’s intellectual property
Hippo and its licensors retain their rights in the Service, software, branding, and other materials we provide, excluding Your Content. Subject to these Terms, you may use the Service for its intended purposes. Nothing in these Terms grants ownership of our trademarks or software.
You may use outputs delivered to you for lawful purposes, subject to third-party rights. Outputs may not be unique, accurate, or eligible for intellectual-property protection. If you voluntarily send product feedback, we may use it without compensation; this does not expand our rights to use personal documents or other private content.
7. Fees and subscriptions
Any charges, billing frequency, renewal terms, and cancellation and refund rules will be disclosed before you purchase a paid feature. Free access does not authorize future charges. Where recurring billing is offered, we will obtain the required authorization and explain how to cancel. Mandatory consumer rights apply regardless of any stated refund policy.
8. Availability, suspension, and termination
We aim to provide a useful Service but do not promise uninterrupted availability. We may modify or discontinue features. Where reasonably practicable, we will provide notice of material changes affecting an active paid service.
You may stop using Hippo at any time and request account closure at hello@itshippo.com. We may suspend or terminate access for material violations of these Terms, legal requirements, or security risks. Where reasonably practicable, we will explain the reason and allow you to address the issue. Account closure and content deletion are subject to the Privacy Policy, lawful retention requirements, and any applicable purchased-service terms.
9. Disclaimers
TO THE EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE.” HIPPO DISCLAIMS IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE OR ITS OUTPUTS WILL BE ERROR-FREE OR THAT THIRD PARTIES WILL ACCEPT OR ACT ON THEM. NOTHING IN THESE TERMS EXCLUDES WARRANTIES OR RIGHTS THAT CANNOT LAWFULLY BE EXCLUDED.
10. Limitation of liability
TO THE EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, HIPPO WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR LOST PROFITS, ARISING FROM THE SERVICE. HIPPO’S TOTAL LIABILITY FOR CLAIMS ARISING FROM THE SERVICE OR THESE TERMS WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF US $100 OR THE AMOUNT YOU PAID HIPPO DURING THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE EVENT GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM.
These limitations do not apply where prohibited by law, including liability that cannot be limited for fraud, intentional misconduct, or gross negligence. They do not restrict mandatory consumer remedies.
11. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by Texas law, excluding conflict-of-law rules, except where your applicable law requires otherwise. Subject to mandatory consumer rights, disputes will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Travis County, Texas. You and Hippo consent to those courts’ jurisdiction where legally permitted. You may contact [CONTACT EMAIL] to seek an informal resolution; doing so does not waive legal rights or required filing deadlines.
12. Changes to these Terms
We will post updated Terms with a new effective date. For material changes, we will give reasonable advance notice through email or the Service and obtain renewed acceptance where required. Changes will not retroactively authorize uses of personal information inconsistent with our prior commitments without an appropriate legal basis and any required consent.
13. General terms and contact
If a provision is unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue to apply. A failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver. These Terms and any expressly agreed feature or purchase terms form the agreement concerning your use of the Service. Mandatory legal rights prevail over conflicting provisions.
